Growing up I have always considered texts to be contained in books. Stories and novels to be the first kinds to come to mind.
Trusty Google defines ‘text’ to be; a book or other written or printed work, regarded in terms of its content rather than its physical form.’
However, it is without a doubt that my understanding of text has been exponentially blown out of the water within the studies of English pedagogy and now ICT curriculum and pedagogy.
Texts now take the form of any communication on any platform. Including novels and letters but also virtual publications online. With this understanding of ‘new’ kinds of texts, I will be able to give students the opportunities study a vast arrange of communications which I never had.
